O události
The Faculty of Theology, University of South Bohemia, invites PhD students to an international seminar led by Dr. Suvi-Maria Saarelainen, Associate Professor in Theology of Wellbeing and Professional Skills at the University of Eastern Finland.
The seminar focuses on the complexity of chaplaincy competence and is grounded in empirical research from nursing home settings. Drawing on interpretative phenomenological analysis, the lecture explores how chaplains encounter older people experiencing existential concerns such as meaninglessness and existential loneliness, and what these encounters require of chaplains themselves.
Particular emphasis is placed on intensive listening skills, person-centred interaction, emotional endurance, and tangible practices of existential, practical, and religious care.
In addition to the lecture, the seminar will provide space for discussion and feedback on doctoral research projects.
Intended audience: PhD students in Theology, Social Work, and Diaconia
