What Makes Our Philosophy Program Unique? Individual Approach: Starting this year, we?re introducing tutorial seminars ? every student will have their own tutor who accompanies them throughout their studies. Who Will Teach You? Daniel Heider (Metaphysics, Renaissance and Early Modern Philosophy) He studied philosophy and English. One of the leading experts on Francisco Suárez and early modern thought, he is great at abstract thinking and metaphysics. Tomáš Machula (Philosophical Anthropology, Ethics, Medieval Philosophy) He originally studied chemistry, later theology and philosophy. A specialist on Thomas Aquinas and the translator of most of his works into Czech. He believes philosophy should truly matter in real life. Lukáš Novák (Medieval Philosophy, Logic) - philosopher and musician, an exceptional expert on John Duns Scotus and an accomplished Latinist. Demanding, but fair - nothing comes without effort. Daniel Novotný (Logic, Epistemology) He studied philosophy in the USA. Known for his broad range of interests and his engaging teaching style. He speaks Chinese and works on ethical issues related to self-driving cars. Jakub Sirovátka (Modern Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, Ethics) He studied in Germany. A recognized expert on Kant and late modern philosophy, well-known even in Kant´s homeland. Specialist in continental thought of the 20th century. Jiří Stránský (Ancient Philosophy, Cosmology) He studied philosophy at the Faculty of Science. He knows everything about Plato´s Timaeus - and reads Greek as fluently as Czech. Vojtěch Šimek (Applied Ethics, Contemporary Philosophy) He studied theology and philosophy. An expert on personalism in 20th-century continental philosophy, especially the thought of Hans Jonas and Robert Spaemann. What can you expect during your studies? Guest lectures by Czech and international scholars. Peripatetic brainstorming - our annual departmental trip with teachers and students. Philosophical pub evenings. Philosophy workshop - student-organized discussions on important current topics. Flexible study options: In your first year, you can choose to combine Philosophy (as your major) with a supplementary field (minor). Possible combinations
