A new study by Zuzana Bártová was published in the prestigious magazine Religion with the title: Personal development and religion in the workplace in Slovakia: from life meaning to religious selves.
The article focuses on religion in personal development in the workplace of Slovak highly and medium skilled workers. Personal development has become an important part of contemporary management. Individuals are expected to develop themselves by reading books and participating in various psychological and health treatments in order to develop their abilities, skills and in search of overall well-being. This emphasis on self-development is also promoted in work and in the attitude towards work. While various studies have increasingly addressed the issue of religion and spirituality at work, studies of personal development have largely ignored religion or failed to see it as a central phenomenon. This paper highlights the importance of studying religion in the context of personal development at work through the question of the meaning of life and the different kinds of religious selves that develop in this way.
