The doctoral study of theology

The doctoral study of theology (Th.D.) focuses on scholarly research and independent creative activity in the field of theology. The applicant selects one of five areas, in which she then specializes in her study; these are: systematic theology, theological anthropology and ethics, practical theology, church law and church history.

The study is organized in four years. It takes place under the supervision of an advisor, following an individual study plan. In the course of her study the doctoral student masters methods of scholarly work and its professional presentation. The study plan comprises basic doctoral seminar taken by all students of first and second year together, individual doctoral seminar consisting in preparation of own dissertation thesis under the guidance of the advisor, and specialization doctoral seminars, the number and topics of which are stipulated by the academic board for the individual doctoral students, e.g. according to their previous studies, sphere of specialization, topic of dissertation and needs of particular student.

The doctoral study programme prepares the student for independent scholarly work. He/she will also be capable of pedagogical application of the acquired scholarly knowledge. He/she has mastered methods of independent scholarly work in the field, and especially can follow up on current research in the field and treat scholarly issues. He/she is able to independently publish the results and put them to practice.
